January 27, 2009Åsmund Frægdegjæva
January 21, 2009The king promises his daughter (cN: sister) to Åsmund if he will go north the the country of trolls to get her free. (cN: Åsmund sails there with his two brothers.) Åsmund arrives at the mountain where the princess is, kills a female ogre and takes the princess down to his ship. The ship is gone (cN: with the two brothers on board). Åsmund returns to the mountain, kills a lot of ogres and finds a horse that promises to carry him and the princess if Åsmund will promise to give the horse his right hand. They ride home across the sea. Åsmund cuts the horse’s head off and it turns into a man, the princess’ brother.

~ There are many collections of this ballad. One that is similar to the one we sing can be found here: http://www.forn-sed.no/folkesagn/folkesagn/folkeviser_kvad/3.shtml
I’m back!
January 12, 2009It’s all about the music, and the camaraderie, and the fishcakes, and the music. I missed you all sooo much! Please don’t mind my babbling, I’m new to blogging and am just trying to figure out if this format will help me be more effective in communicating. This is not a replacement for the NLC website, but a way for you to check in and see if there’s anything new from the director. Maybe someday there will be a director’s page on the NLC website where you can log in using a password and get the song lists, sheet music perhaps, and listen to recordings of your parts, etc. For right now this will have to do. Happy New Year!
Here is a list of music to turn in! (for starters)
Jeg er så glad,
Nå tennes tusen julelys
O Jul med din glede
På låven sitter nissen
Hei Tomtegubber
Julvisa
Winter Wonderland
Still, Still, Still
Julenatt
Glade Jul
Det Kimer nå til julefest
Det Hev ei rose sprunge
Singing as thanks for payment!
January 6, 2009The Swedish Radio Chorus has been catching people off guard and singing takk (thanks) for paying their TV license fees. Since the campaign of singing thanks candid camera style began, they have tallied over 23,000 new subscribers. How fun is that? I wonder what would happen if KCTS tried this? Or, maybe it could be the new NLC fund raising strategy? Ja!?
